Nouns — Types and Functions
Names of Everything
A noun names a person, place, thing, idea or feeling. Understanding noun types is the foundation of grammar.

Four Ways to Classify a Noun

Common vs Proper
Common: city, teacher, book (no capital). Proper: Lahore, Mr. Ahmed, Quran (capital).

Countable vs Uncountable
Countable: book→books. Uncountable: water, information, advice — no plural, use much/little.

Concrete vs Abstract
Concrete: table, car, face (physical). Abstract: love, justice, freedom (idea).

Collective
A flock of birds, a herd of cattle, a team of players, a class of students.
Noun Functions in a Sentence
- Subject: "The student solved the problem."
- Object: "She read the novel."
- Possessive: "The teacher's explanation was clear."
- Complement: "He became a doctor."
Determiners for Countable vs Uncountable

The most common mistake
Uncountable nouns like "information" and "advice" never take a plural -s and never pair with "many" — say "much information," never "informations" or "many informations."
