Meaning of Percent
'Percent' means 'per hundred'. 25% means 25 out of every 100.
Converting Percent to Decimal
Divide by 100 (move the decimal point two places left).
Converting Decimal to Percent
Multiply by 100 (move the decimal point two places right).
Finding a Percentage of a Number
Multiply the number by the percentage written as a decimal.
Percentage Increase/Decrease
Find the difference, divide by the original value, then multiply by 100.

Example 1 Find 20% of 150.
- Convert 20% to a decimal: 0.20.
- Multiply: 0.20 x 150.

Example 2 Convert 0.45 to a percentage.
- Multiply by 100: 0.45 x 100.
Answer: 45%
Example 3 A shirt's price rose from $40 to $50. Find the percentage increase.
- Change = 50 - 40 = 10.
- Divide by original: 10/40 = 0.25.
- Multiply by 100: 25%.
Answer: 25% increase
