Past Perfect exists to show which of two past events came first.
Forms

Simple.
V2. "He studied in Lahore."

Continuous.
was/were+V-ing. "I was eating dinner."

Perfect.
had+PP. Action before another past action.

Perfect Continuous.
had been+V-ing. Ongoing before a past moment.
Order-of-Events Example
By the time he arrived (Past Simple), we had eaten (Past Perfect). → Eating happened FIRST.
