In one line: volume measures how much three-dimensional space a solid takes up — essentially, how much it could hold if it were hollow.

Key Ideas

1Volume of a Cube. V = side^3.
2Volume of a Rectangular Prism. V = length * width * height.
3Volume of a Cylinder. V = pi * r^2 * h.
4Volume of a Sphere. V = (4/3) * pi * r^3.
5Volume of a Cone. V = (1/3) * pi * r^2 * h — exactly one-third the volume of a cylinder with the same base and height.

Find the volume of a cube with side 5.

Find the volume of a rectangular prism with length 6, width 4, height 3.

Find the volume of a cylinder with radius 3, height 10 (use pi ~ 3.14).
