How your data is processed
Your file. The .docx or .pdf you choose is read with the browser's own File API. It is never uploaded, and it is discarded when you close or reload the tab.
The free analysis. Match score, keyword gaps, ATS checks and CV health are computed by JavaScript running on this page. No network request is made, so this works with no account and even offline once the page has loaded.
The AI steps. When you press AI-tailor, a quick improvement, or a letter button, the plain text of your detected CV sections plus the job description are POSTed to bitwithbite.com, which forwards them to a third-party model provider to produce the wording. Results are returned to your browser; we do not add them to a profile.
Saved versions. Only if you press Save, and only text — stored against your account so you can reuse it. You can delete any saved version at any time.
Application tracking. Stored in this browser's localStorage only. It never reaches our servers, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Enforced two ways: the writer is instructed against it, and every suggestion is checked against the rest of your CV. Anything unsupported is flagged as needs your confirmation before it can be applied.
Questions people ask
Is the Smart CV Editor free?
The analysis is free and needs no account: match score, missing keywords, ATS report and CV health all run in your browser. Manual .docx editing is free too. The optional AI writer (rewrites and cover letters) needs a free account and includes free runs.
Does my CV get uploaded or stored?
In Private Mode the file is read and analysed inside your browser tab and nothing is sent anywhere. If you choose the optional AI step, the text of your CV sections and the job description are sent to our AI service to generate suggestions. The .docx file itself is never uploaded.
Will it change my CV formatting?
No. It edits your existing .docx in place, so fonts, spacing and layout stay as they were. You approve every change on a before/after comparison first.
Does the AI invent experience?
No. It is instructed to only rephrase, reprioritise and surface what is already in your CV. Every suggestion is checked against the rest of your CV, and anything that introduces a skill you haven't evidenced is flagged before you can apply it.
Can it edit a PDF CV?
A PDF can be analysed — match score, keywords, ATS notes, AI suggestions and a cover letter all work. Writing changes back into the file needs a .docx, because a PDF has no editable document structure to preserve.
Is the match score the same as an employer's ATS score?
No. It is an analysis produced by Smart CV Editor by comparing your CV text with the job description you pasted. Employers use many different systems with their own scoring, which no external tool can read. Use it to find gaps, not as a prediction.
